Requirements for The Warrant

To become a qualified barber, you need to pass all the following steps:

  1. Firstly, you should have a high school diploma or GED.
  2. Secondly, you should be at least 17 years old or older.
  3. Thirdly, you have to be a graduate of an approved school. The education has to last at least 2100 hours and includes practical and instruction lessons. It should cover such topics as fundamentals of the profession, sterilization, and hygiene, cutting and shaving, massaging.
  4. Then you should complete an 18-hour training course at a special seminary.
  5. And finally, succeed at the examination.

Details of the Exam

The Board holds examinations 4 times annually (in January, April, July, and October). Examinees must apply at least 15 days before the day of the testing.

To participate in the exam, you need to fill out the application form, provide the essential documents and pay the costs. The cost for the exam is $190 and this also includes the $90 fee for a two-year warranty.

The testing process contains written and practical components. The 2-hour written test covers questions on the fundamentals of the profession and national laws. Then you should show your knowledge in practice.

To get the qualification for both components you have to score at least 75%.

Application for the certificate

After fulfilling all the demands, you may apply for authorization. There are two options available:

  • Apply online by filling the special form accessible on the official website.
  • By visiting the examiner’s office in person.

Renewal

The validity of the document is two years. If you want to continue your career you must renew your warrant every other year. This law spreads to guys’ hairdressers, shops, colleges, and instructors.

The expiration date is the same for all males’ hairstylists (every even-numbered year on June 30th). To complete this procedure, you should also prove 8-hour continuing education.

Renewal fee

The prices for validating the record are:

  • Individuals – $90
  • Shop – $100
  • School – $400

To renew your Nebraska Barber license after the expiration date you have to pay additional late charges (the latter starts from $25 to $75).
Submit the payment online, in person, or by mail.

  • Do the online payment through PayPoint (Info on your bank accounts or cards is required).
  • Manage it at the office at 1220 Lincoln Mall, Suite 100, Lincoln, NE. You can only pay by check or cash (in a money order).
  • In the case of doing it by mail, you should include the renewal notice along with the proper price.

Transfer of a warrant

There is a possibility to transfer the certificate of another state to NE.

  • Firstly, you should provide the active licensing of your state (show the certification given by the national body of your hometown).
  • Secondly, give $235 as a reciprocity fee and receive the new document.
